Trofeul Golden Apple

6 Septembrie 2009

To know Romania Better

Review of the Golden Apple ceremony, By Nikolai Meinert (Independent Member)

Romanian Golden Apple (or more precisely Golden Apples) looks like a very special price in the history of FIJET. First of all, it is a very rare case, when 3 Golden Apples have been presented at once to one country. That was very fast decision, probably because FIJET members became so impressed after their trip to Romania in May.

alt

As it was already mentioned in September Newsletter FIJET Awards went to the region surrounding Sibiu, the Danube Delta region and Blue Air Airlines. Two our trips to Romania showed that if Romanians want to do something special, remarkable and memorable, they will do it!

Presenting the Golden Apples

The awarding ceremony took place in City Hall of Saliste - small town in Sibiu County in the center of Romania. Solemn speeches and official presentation of Awards were only a part of the whole procedure, which started in nearby village of Sibiel by horse carriage ride - kind of surprise for participants. Romania's Minister of Tourism Elena Udrea and FIJET President Tijani Haddad took place side by side in the carriage. They both fit very well to country landscape. Minister's attempt to escape by her limousine to avoid walk on high heels along unpaved roads was blocked by polite local authorities in very beginning. To be honest, she tried to do it before being escorted to the ceremonial carriage, which was surprise also for her.

Activity of the media and photographers/paparazzi bustle were much over average, reflecting high interest to the whole event. Partly that was caused by political dimension of whatever Governmental minister is doing.

Upcoming presidential elections in November 2009 give a significant meaning to every move, which can be connected with politics. Elena Udrea, a noticeable person in Romanian political life, belongs to the team of incumbent President Traian Basescu. That means permanent attacks by opposition from one hand, and importance of tourism for Romania from another, if person like she concentrating so much on promotion the country as a travel destination.

So it was easy for us to find FIJET in midst of political battle. Romanian media coverage - both very positive and very critical - was guaranteed to this event. And we got it. Whatever happened, nobody can say that Golden Apple Award ceremony went in Romania unnoticed!

Minister, FIJET members and municipal authorities in the company of media - local and national - visited also famous glass icons museum - the proud of Sibiel - and after brief photo session moved from the village to town. Not on carriages anymore, but on normal busses and cars. Is it necessary to describe how we have been greeted there by folk dancers, curios crowd, polite servicemen and officials? Yes, exactly as you can imagine: music, bread and salt, p?linc? (a lot of - do you know, what I mean?).

The hall was full, no free places. List of speakers included Minister Elena Udrea, FIJET President Tijani Haddad, local municipal authorities and happy award winners. Presenter of the awarding ceremony and the main engine behind the whole event, President of PressTour - FIJET Romania Victor Radulescu felt obviously nervous, but was unusually serious. He could be happy because in those awards was a very big part of his active work.

Who Got It?

Should we introduce the winners? I don't think that one passage will be enough to tell enough. There are a lot of files on my desktop, huge bulk of brochures on my table and colorful impressions in my memory.

Danube Delta - just before reaching the sea Danube River forms the second largest and best preserved of Europe's deltas: 2,200 square miles of rivers, canals, marshes, tree-fringed lakes and reed islands. The Danube Delta is a wildlife enthusiast's (especially a bird watcher's) paradise. It's an UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.

Surroundings of Sibiu - a unique ethnographic area in Romania. The greater part of the villages in this area preserved strong spiritual and ethno-folkloric traditions. Although modern constructions progressively replaced the old and traditional ones, the atmosphere in Marginimea Sibiului remained unaltered. According to Forbes, this is the most romantic ecotouristic area in the World.

The third Golden Apple Award is not so obvious. It was delivered to private company BLUE AIR for achievements in the development of touristic services. In our days many air companies struck by crisis and any positive example can be very useful for others. In the case of BLUE AIR we can find the very dynamic development of an air company in Europe. Let's hope that the future of this company will be same glorious like effective raising in previous years.

For me personally all those awards looks like stimulation of Romania for future development. There are countries, which are much better well-known on touristic maps with developed infrastructure and universally recognized resorts. Romania is still needs to do a lot, but it looks that it is moving in the right direction. And this way deserves an award.

Tell me what you see

I was very much disappointed after my trips to Romania during this year. Disappointed, because most of my previous notions about this country seemed to be wrong or obsolete. In Nordic or Baltic states you can here a lot of rumors about Romania, but only now people started to travel there to find what is really going on. And from that point of view most of then are not disappointed at all.

It's easy to prove. Already our short, 3 days trip through the country after awarding ceremony gave us a lot of arguments to support travels to Romania. We got a chance to see the change of the guard in 18 century costumes at the gate of Alba Lulia - remarkable city with the old strong fortress. We briefly took part in the immense annual international Song Festival „Cerbul de Aur": great stage, great audience, great names and unique place - central square in historic city of Brasov. We got an experience of horse riding training in Rahau. Is it interesting to buy brand new the leather bag directly from the factory? Yes, it is possible just next door to Riding School.

It was the real opportunity to catch a fish from "Spring of Joy" - environmentally friendly tourist`s complex near Lake Siriu, Some of us did it. The fish in the pond is so abundant, that it needs only couple of minutes to have a catch.

Next stop - the Berca Mud Volcanoes. Only certain rare places are in Europe with very special natural factors like this. Permanent eruption of mud and volcanic gases created small craters or volcano-shaped mounds typically a few meters high. Erupting mad is cold with beautiful silver color. And the whole landscape here looks unusually enigmatic.

The only minus for me on the end of this trip was my personal bad travel arrangement: because of it I had to leave our group one day before our tour ended. And more exiting places left unseen for me. But there is always something for the next time.

M?rginimea Sibiului, Rezerva?ia Biosferei Delta Dun?rii ?i Compania Aerian? Blue Air.

Comitetul Executiv al FIJET, Consiliul Director al PressTour FIJET Romania, oficialit??i jude?ene ?i evident premian?ii.

Despre trofee

î?i schimbe culoarea.
